So, if you are ready – let’s get going…

Holy Smokes Eh!! The weather has cooled off but it seems the business world has heated up. The stakes are  higher. The rules are, well, the rules (or are they?). And the game has changed.

But first…

What am I up to?

We went down to the beach last weekend to see the waves that rolled in. And boy were those babies BIG!! As in 25 foot big. On Saturday we went down to Salt Creek to watch them and I tell ya, you can’t help but look at those in awe. The thought, Holy Smokes, God, you made some powerful waves resonated loudly through my head.

The kids did not want to go out and play in them. There is a cool video of Kelly Slater riding one of these bad boys at the U.S. Open Surfing Competition in Huntington Beach last Saturday. He rides a perfect 10 on the face of a 20+ foot giant wave and then vanishes into the white water for several seconds.

Check it out here:

See the waves wash the bottom of the pier at the beginning of the video? In my 15 years living out here, I have NEVER seen anything like that.

It was interesting, the announcers said that nobody was riding those big waves. Except Kelly. Pretty ballsy of him. Interesting, nobody scored like he did. He scored a perfect 10.

Speaking of scoring a perfect 10, let’s get into today’s meat…

Want Success David?

Ballsy People Accomplish Ballsy Things!

I think the waves that came in last weekend were a perfect example of what I see going on around us.

Let me explain. Last weekend:

There were big waves rolling in.

You have never seen any waves as big as these this close to home. These big waves strike fear into your heart – am I going to get smashed and die if I go out in them? Yet they attract you and draw you towards them, making something come alive in you. How does this relate to you and what’s going on around you?

There are big waves in the economy that have been rolling in – the economy sucks.

You have never seen setback after setback to this magnitude ever before in your life.

You know you have to do something different to get more business – your gut wrenches and fear kicks in as you wonder if you are going to get smashed and die if you go out and do something wrong.

And yet, you have a strange sense of “fight” rising up inside of you. A boldness that you feel coursing through your veins louder and louder….. Fear.

……….. Then courage.

………… More fear…. more courage.

………… More uncertainty…. more determination.

………… Worry… then faith.

On and on it goes as your mind is tossed like the giant waves that crashed into the beach. This seems to last for an eternity. And then comes the next 5 minutes!

Dude, you have a choice… you can bow down and lose to the competition. Or you can be like Kelly Slater and paddle straight out into the biggest wave.

You can be a hero or you can go down as the “guy that didn’t try”…. your choice.

Here’s the point…

When you know you need to do something. Do it. Like the guy standing in the middle of the desert with a canteen of water with no lid on it. If he stands there and doesn’t act, the water will evaporate and he will die. The best thing for him to do is to drink the water for strength. Pick a direction. And run like heck!!

So what do you need to paddle out into? Here are some questions to help you:

…… What will you do if that big deal you have been working on doesn’t come through?

…… What hard questions do you ask your prospect after the sale has stalled and you want to it to a definite yes or no?

…… What do you do if your accounts payable don’t pay and you owe more than you are taking in?

……. What strategy do you take if you need business and you have limited cash resources and time to get it done?

One question people ask me on a regular basis is: “what is the best way to get business for my industry?”

Here are the 3 simplest ways to generate more business now:

  • Sell to clients that have bought from you in the past
  • Define who your ideal client is and structure an offer they can’t refuse
  • Develop joint venture relationships with people that are going after the same market as you and use their list to get more business.

And here is one bonus one, develop a lead generation system so you can not only get sales now, but develop a robust, constant source of new business.

How do you do this? …. well, that is a conversation for another day.

Now to lighten things up a little…

Thought you would like to see a secret tip to gain bragging rights this summer.
